Every so often, when I criticize a work, I get a response of "OMG! It's JUST a STORY!". Last week, someone on Twitter told me I needed to learn the difference between reality and fiction (sadly, I was talking about politicians saying silly things in public and I'm pretty sure they're real).

Yes. It's just a story and no actual people are harmed in the creation of a work of fiction. However, the story itself can harm people. Misrepresentation causes direct harm. Read more... )

Letting people know that I'm here again.

Still busy, still have the equivalent of three jobs.

BUT! I have just posted the prologue of the original novel I have been working on here.

It's entered into Inkitt's Echo of Another World writing contest. If you do go over and read it, and like it, please click the little heart to vote for me. Just so you know, even if you leave a review, you have to click the little heart to vote for it.

Thanks

This chapter is one of my favorites. A lot of backstory on Severus.

This is the song Severus is listening to. I was listening to it (And a whole lot of other late seventies music) when I wrote it.

Start the song at about the fourth paragraph if you want a "multimedia experience". ;)

Imagined conversation in my head:

Hey, Internet,

Hey, Paganaidd. Where ya been?

Ummm, Busy?

Uh huh.

Sorry, I've been really busy and I've had all these health issues and my husband's been laid off and we're starting a new company, and my daughters been having problems and, and, and...

Hm.

Long unerving silence---

Okay. How about I put two chapters of
Digging in one post, cause they go together?

Oh fine, just don't leave it so long next time.

So yes, I've been really busy, but I haven't forgotten this little corner of the internet. Two chapters in one go to make up for it!

"Can I get you something?" called Dudley from the kitchen, "I can make some tea, or coffee."

"Tea would be lovely." Ginny supplied, watching Harry who found himself voiceless. Had Dudley really just offered Harry tea?

Author's notes: Harry is having a pretty strong reaction to Privet Drive. Dudley is just not what he's expecting.

Setting Boundaries
As Harry sat down to the table in the Great Hall, he heard the tell-tale ping of one of the screws in the frames of his glasses falling out onto the table and rolling away.

I called this chapter "Setting Boundaries" because this is the first time Harry's ever had them expressly set for him. Most of the time, he is expected to just know what the rules are. At the Dursleys, the rules change according to Vernon and Petunia's mood with the only consistent one being "pretend you don't exist".

Originally posted on Paganaidd's Blog on November 17, 2012: A piece written while volunteering with the Red Cross in New Jersey.

In my first post in this blog, I mentioned that one of the Gods of my house is Christ in his guise as homeless dude.

I've met Christ several times in my life--Not literally (I don't think, but perhaps I'm wrong), but in the "I greet the divinity within you" sort of way.

Last week I met him in the form of a possibly drug addled, traumatized, toothless, middle aged white man.

We arrived at 10:00 this morning at Red Cross headquarters. They sent us to an orientation class. After we identified ourselves as health care workers, we were "fast tracked" in regards to assignments.

A friend and I are headed down to help with the clean up on Sandy. I'm an EMT and she's a nurse. We've both done disaster aid before. We're soliciting donations to buy needed stuff to take with us.

The child never ate.

Five meals Severus had taken in the Great Hall on Saturday and Sunday, and the child was at none of them. Once again Severus checked with the house elves and they had not seen the boy.

Notes on Chapter 10

Something that keeps coming up in the reveiws of this story is the issue of WHY did no one notice Harry's state? Many readers like to imply that Dumbldore was deliberately covering up abuse.

This is the beginning of my favorite set of stories. It's set Post Deathly Hallows and is pretty much canon compliant. It starts a few years after the Epilogue.

I always felt the Epilogue was just a bit incomplete, so here's my effort at filling in gaps.

Author's Notes on Chapter 1

I love reunions. I write them frequently because I adore them--good ones and painful ones. I rather dislike partings, so its nice that I don't have to write one here.

 The CAMPAIGN

The Bill of Reproductive Rights is an effort by the Center for Reproductive Rights to deliver a thundering statement—backed by hundreds of thousands of signatures from concerned citizens like you—to the U.S. Congress and the President that they must guarantee and protect reproductive rights as fundamental human rights and stop the attacks by politicians who want to take those rights away.

Draw the line! Sign the Bill of Reproductive Rights!

Little Whinging was an attractive enough place, Severus thought, contemptuously. Assuming, one liked houses all made of ticky-tacky.

This is when I decided that this was going to be a long work and we all might as well settle in for the long haul.

Some descriptions of child abuse.

Trigger warnings will be posted here on out for many chapters. It is a very dark work (if you haven't read it before). However, all my stories end in a hopeful place and this one will not be the exception.

Exam
Harry stumbled a few times as Severus pulled him along, so fast was Severus walking.  Lupin kept glancing at them, concerned.  Severus glared at Lupin, over the boy’s head, daring Lupin to speak, or protest his manhandling of the Boy Who Lived.
